1 At least some midstem inflorescences simple or compound cymes of 3-15 flowers; peduncles 0-9 mm, slender to stout; petals 1-3 mm long; petals 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, or 8; [collectively widespread].
  2 Style included (when in fruit), thick, 0.5-1.0 mm long (much shorter than the ovary); calyx lobes obtuse, often with the apices minutely mucronate; petals 0, 1, or 4, pale pink to white, to 1 mm long and 1 mm wide
  2 Style exserted (when in fruit), filiform, 1.5-3.0 mm long (equal to or longer than the ovary); calyx lobes triangular, with acute apices; petals 4 (-5), deep rose-purple or pale lavender, ca. 2-3 mm long and 2-3 mm wide.
