Intro: Erect to prostrate annual of fields, roadsides, disturbed forests and other disturbed habitats. Native of e. Asia.
Stems: Stems much-branched, usually spreading across the ground, often reddish, very hairy.
Leaves: Leaves alternate; on 1/4-in.-long petioles with papery, lance-oval stipules; divided into 3 oval leaflets up to 1/2 in. long and with many closely spaced parallel veins and hairy margins.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in dense, spike-like racemes from upper leaf axils; bi-colored pink and white; with typical pea-flower shape, including a large, round, erect "banner" petal with darker pinkish-purple markings.
Fruits: Fruit a tiny, flattened, broadly oval pod with a short beak and covered at the base by the persistent calyx; contains a single seed.
