*Phyllostachys aurea Carrière ex Rivière & C. Rivière. Common name: Golden Bamboo, Fishpole Bamboo. Phenology: Mar. Habitat: Suburban woodlands, upland forests and woodlands, riparian forests, stream banks, roadsides, pastures, old fields, persisting and spreading from plantings. Distribution: Native of China and Japan.

ID notes: This is by far the most common large bamboo cultivated and naturalizing in most of our region, forming dense stands, up to at least 15 m tall. Very rarely flowering in our region.
