Hydrophyllum macrophyllum Nuttall. Hairy Waterleaf. Phen: May-Jun; Jul-Aug. Hab: Cove forests and other moist rocky forests, especially over calcareous or mafic rocks. Dist: WV west to OH, and IL, south to sw. VA, w. NC, n. GA, and n. AL; disjunct in the lower Piedmont of SC (Kershaw County; L.L. Gaddy, pers. comm. 2013).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Reports from AR are erroneous, and are based on material of Hydrophyllum brownei Kral & Bates (Peck 2003). The w. North American H. occidentale (S. Watson) A. Gray is rather closely related.
