not marked as a favorite taxon Monarda maxmedleyi J.J.N. Campbell & Floden. Common name: Knobs Bee-Balm, Max's Bee-balm. Phenology: Late May-mid June; late Jul-Aug. Habitat: Subxeric to xeric open woods on cliffs, to subxeric to more mesic sites below limestone cliffs, often in talus of mixed siltstone and limestone, and occasionally on roadsides and open woodland, or grassy areas on ridges and slopes (Floden, Campbell, & Carstens 2026). Distribution: S. Oklahoma south to e. and c. Kentucky, specifically the Eastern Knobs region of Kentucky (defined as a complex geological transition from the Bluegrass region to the northern Appalachian Plateaus, all draining into the central Ohio River watershed). There are a few records from the southern Knobs, in transition to the Mississippian Plateaus (Floden, Campbell, & Carstens 2026).
