Muhlenbergia phleoides (Kunth) Columbus. Common name: Common Wolf's-tail. Habitat: Grasslands and scrub.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Formerly placed in Lycurus (Reeder 1985). Although Lycurus and Schaffnerella form a strongly supported clade (Columbus and Peterson 2008), the recognition of other previously recognized segregate genera (e.g., Schedonnardus paniculatus = Muhlenbergia paniculata) render the remainder of the genus Muhlenbergia paraphyletic. Revised subgenus classification follows Peterson et al. (2023).
