Stillingia aquatica Chapman. Common name: Corkwood, Water Toothleaf. Phenology: Feb-Aug; (Feb-) Apr-Oct. Habitat: Ponds in pine flatwoods, ponded interdune swales, marl prairies. Distribution: Se. SC south to s. FL, west to sw. AL.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Populations from the Panhandle and Big Bend regions of FL are genetically distinct from those of c. & s. FL, and they also differ in leaf width (wider leaves from n. FL northward). Populations from Miami-Dade Co. (and now also Collier and Lee Cos.) that have vegetative parts and inflorescences heavily suffused with red pigment were included in S. tenuis by Small (1933). All three of these entities are under study and likely deserve taxonomic recognition.

Synonymy : = Fl2, FNA12, K4, RAB, S, S13, WH3, Govaerts, Frodin, & Radcliffe-Smith (2000), Rogers (1951). Basionym: Stillingia aquatica Chapm. 1860
