*Edgeworthia papyrifera Siebold & Zuccarini. Common name: Paperbush, Mitsumata. Phenology: Jan-Mar; May-Jun. Habitat: Cove forests, rarely planted and rarely persistent or naturalized. Distribution: Native of e. Asia. Extensively naturalized along Wolf Creek and Cliff Creek in Rabun County, Georgia, where it apparently spread from plantings ca. 1890 (Duncan & Mellinger 1972; T. Govus, pers. comm., 2020).
Origin/Endemic status: E., se., and s. Asia
Taxonomy Comments: "E. chrysantha" appears to be the oldest valid name for a broadly circumscribed taxon. E. gardneri Meisner is an older name, but does not apply to this species. Material naturalized in Rabun County, GA, matches best to E. papyrifera and is so treated here (T. Diggs, pers.comm., 2022).
