Plectocephalus americanus (Nuttall) D. Don in R. Sweet. Common name: American Basketflower. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Glades and woodlands westward; eastwards as a waif in waste ground around wool-combing mills in e. SC (Nesom 2004d), waifs at old ports or mills, or planted at agricultural experimental stations. Distribution: S. IL, MO, KS, NM, and AZ south to s. AR, w. LA, TX, and Mexico (CHH, COA, DUR, HID, NLE, OAX, ROO, SLP, SON, TAM). Seen in Johnson Co., IL in 2010 by J. Wibbenmeyer (P. Marcum, pers. comm., 2023).
