Taxonomy Comments: Recent study by Williamson et al. (2022) suggests Echinocereus fitchii ssp. albertii is composed of more than one distinct genetic lineage, with one more closely allied to Echinocereus reichenbachii ssp. caespitosus than to E. fitchii ssp. fitchii.
