Spartina alterniflora Loiseleur-Deslongchamps. Common name: Saltmarsh Cordgrass, Smooth Cordgrass. Phenology: Aug-Dec. Habitat: Salt marshes. S. alterniflora is the dominant plant (often essentially a monoculture) of intratidal salt marshes in our area. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) south to FL, west to TX and ne. Mexico; e. South America; introduced in n. Europe.
