not marked as a favorite taxon Cercis canadensis Linnaeus var. mexicana (Rose) M. Hopkins. Common name: Mexican Redbud. Phenology: (Jan-) Mar-Apr. Habitat: Rocky limestone areas. Distribution: Scattered from nc. OK to e. and wc. TX, south into Mexico along the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Taxonomy Comments: Cercis canadensis var. mexicana and C. canadensis var. texensis have similar distributions (though with different areas of greatest abundance) and appear to differ morphologically primarily in hairiness (see key).
