Carex aurea Nuttall. Section: [26z] Section 17b Bicolores. Common name: Golden-fruited Sedge. Phenology: Late May-Jul. Habitat: Wet calcareous sites, prairies, swamps, shores, and disturbed areas. Distribution: NL west to AK, south to NY, nw. PA, s. OH, s. IN, s. IL, MN, KS, TX, NM, AZ, and CA.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Circumscribed to exclude Carex garberi Fernald.
