Agastache nepetoides (Linnaeus) Kuntze. Common name: Yellow Giant-hyssop. Phenology: Jul-Sep; Sep-Oct. Habitat: Woodlands and forests, generally over calcareous or mafic rocks. Distribution: VT west to MN, south to nw. GA and OK.

Intro: Erect, rhizomatous perennial of woodlands and forests, generally over calcareous or mafic rocks.

Stems: Stems distinctly 4-angled, sometimes branched above, mostly smooth.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, petiolate, oval or lance-oval, 1-5 in. (reduced upward), coarsely toothed, finely hairy beneath.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers densely packed, along with small green bracts, in terminal spikes to 4 in. long; flowers pale yellow, ⅜ in. long, bilaterally symmetric, the corolla tubular and divided into 2 lips: a nearly erect, 2-lobed upper lip and a 3-lobed lower lip (middle lobe largest). The green calyx also is tubular with 5 lobes; there are 4 long-protruding stamens.
