not marked as a favorite taxon *×Sorbaronia mitschurinii (A.K. Skvortsov & Maitulina) Sennikov. Common name: Cultivated Black Chokeberry. Habitat: Used in "native plant" horticulture. Distribution: An artificial hybrid now being widely planted, sometimes mistaken for (and sold as and planted as) Aronia melanocarpa.

ID notes: The inflorescences of this taxon have more flowers and fruits than Aronia melanocarpa, for which it is sometimes mistaken or falsely advertized. The fruits differ in vestiture (pubescent and therefore appearing 'matte', vs. glabrous and shiny in Aronia melanocarpa) and size and shape (large and depressed-spherical vs. smaller and ovoid to spherical in Aronia melanocarpa).
