Danthonia sericea Nuttall. Common name: Silky Oat-grass, Downy Danthonia. Phenology: Mar-Jun (-early Jul). Habitat: Dry woodlands, especially common in sandy soils in the Coastal Plain, dry oak, oak-pine, and pine forests in the Piedmont and low Mountains, and on dry acidic cliffs and rock outcrops, roadsides and woodland margins. Distribution: Primarily a Coastal Plain species northward, ranging from e. MA south to FL and west to LA. Reported for WV by Vanderhorst et al. (2013).
