*Scleranthus annuus Linnaeus ssp. annuus. Common name: Knawel, Annual Knawel, Knotgrass. Phenology: Mar-Oct. Habitat: Fields, ditches, roadsides, other disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Mediterranean Europe, n. Africa, and w. Asia.

Taxonomy Comments: There are seven other subspecies recognized outside our region (Thieret & Rabeler in FNA 2005).
