Hymenachne hemitoma (J.A. Schultes) C.C. Hsu. Maidencane. Phen: Mar-Nov. Hab: Lake, pond, and river shores, swamp borders, marshes, ditches, often in shallow water, often forming dense colonies in the low margin and shallow waters of Coastal Plain ponds. Occasionally in surprisingly xeric habitats, spreading vegetatively. Dist: Coastal Plain from s. NJ south to s. FL, west to TX; also TN; South America.
