Intro: Tuft- or mat-forming perennial of roadsides, pastures, lawns and a wide variety of other habitats.
Stems: Stems erect to reclining, branched, with stiff hairs pressed against the stem.
Leaves: Leaves alternate; petiolate; divided into 3 clover-like, heart-shaped leaflets about 1/2 in. wide each and often folded along the central vein (evenings and when cloudy); smooth above with scattered hairs below.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in umbels of 1-3; yellow; 1/2-1 in. wide; with 5 spreading oval petals, 5 sepals and 10 stamens.
Fruits: Fruit an erect, cylindrical, 5-angled, pointed capsule, usually with short dense hairs that give it a grayish appearance.
