Elodea canadensis Michaux. Common name: Common Waterweed. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Rivers, lakes, ponds, stagnant waters of streams. Distribution: Québec west to Saskatchewan, south to North Carolina, Panhandle Florida, n. Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and California, the southern distribution perhaps only introduced.

Taxonomy Comments: Elodea schweinitzii has often been recognized, but overall evidence suggests is a mere form of E. canadensis. It is alleged to differ in having perfect flowers with 3 stamens (as opposed to flowers either pistillate or staminate, and the staminate flowers usually with 9 stamens).
