Aphyllon ludovicianum (Nuttall) A. Gray. Common name: Prairie Broomrape. Phenology: Apr-Aug. Habitat: Deep sands, pastures, upland areas, and glades, parasitic on perennial composites such as Grindelia, Artemisia, and Heterotheca. Distribution: Saskatchewan and British Columbia south to Missouri, w. Texas, Arizona. Reports of this species further east are apparently based on the more recently named Aphyllon riparium. Reports from Mexico are based on Aphyllon spectabile.
