Sarracenia psittacina Michaux. Common name: Parrot Pitcherplant. Phenology: Late Mar-May. Habitat: Savannas, less commonly on floating peat mats. Distribution: This distinctive species is distributed primarily in the East Gulf Coastal Plain, but ranges east to the Atlantic Coastal Plain of e. GA (Bullock County), in close proximity to the SC border.

Stems: Stems underground, sending up several pitchers and a single flower stalk per plant.
Leaves: Leaves are narrow, green and red pitchers (tubes that trap insects), 3-12 in. long, with many white patches; they usually lie on the ground in a rosette and each has a broad, curved wing on the upper side and a rounded hood (the "parrot head" referenced in common name) nearly closing the opening.
