Taxonomy Comments: Pelecyphora vivipara consists of a large and widely variable complex of taxa with much intergradation between segregates. More study is needed to better delimitate taxa within this complex since the work of Zimmermann (1985). Plants of P. vivipara in the flora region represent the taxon first published as Mammillaria radiosa Engelmann, widely known in recent times as Escobaria vivipara var. radiosa (Engelmann) D.R. Hunt.
