Spiranthes lucida (H.H. Eaton) Ames. Shining Ladies'-tresses. Phen: May-Jul. Hab: Sunny seepage over amphibolite, limestone, or other basic rock, moist banks and shores. Dist: NS and ON south to NC, e. TN, sc. TN (Chester et al. 1993), c. AL, MO, and KS. The species was reported for NC by Fernald (1950) and by Small (1933), but was not treated by RAB; its occurrence in NC was verified in 1992 by its discovery in a seepage area in Ashe County.
