not marked as a favorite taxon *Opuntia cacanapa Griffiths & Hare. Common name: Texas Blue Prickly-pear. Habitat: Disturbed areas, fencerows, roadsides, oldfields, thornscrub. Also commonly cultivated as an ornamental in n. FL, and may persist. Distribution: Nc. and e. Texas south to Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo Léon, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Hidalgo).

ID notes: The narrow, glaucous, and spineless cladodes with highly recurved vestigial leaves on new growth are immediately recognizable among all other Opuntia in the Flora area.

Origin/Endemic status: Sw. North America

Taxonomy Comments: In the Flora area, plants of O. cacanapa represent a spineless clone of the species which commonly escapes cultivation. This clone was named as a species only known from cultivation (Opuntia ellisiana Griffiths) years after the publication of O. cacanapa.
