Potamogeton Linnaeus. Common name: Pondweed.
A genus of about 80 species, aquatic herbs, nearly cosmopolitan.
ID notes: Stipule margins of submersed leaves are either free from the leaf blade bases (connate) or fused (adnate). Lacunae or lacunar bands refer to thin bands of transparent cells present in some leaves of Potamogeton sitting adjacent to either side of the midrib.
