not marked as a favorite taxon Ilex ×attenuata W.W. Ashe. Common name: Topal Holly, East Palatka Holly. Phenology: May-Jun; Oct-Nov. Habitat: Natural hybrid in mesic or wetland areas where its two parents grow in proximity; also planted as an ornamental and may be expected to spread from planting outside its native range. Distribution: Known in natural settings from se. North Carolina south to Panhandle Florida, but may occur more broadly within the overlapping distributions of its two parents. In cultivation more broadly, and may be expected to naturalize near areas of cultivation.

ID notes: This natural hybrid (and cultivar) looks intermediate between its parents. Compared to Ilex opaca, it has fewer or no marginal spines, and a narrower leaf blade. Compared to Ilex cassine, it has a broader blade, and a spinose leaf tip.
