not marked as a favorite taxon Coptis Salisbury. Common name: Goldthread.

A genus of about 15 species, perennial herbs, of boreal to temperate e. Asia and North America. If Glaucidium (of e. Asia) and Hydrastis are excluded (as here) from Ranunculaceae, Coptis is the "basalmost" genus in the family, treated as a monogeneric subfamily Coptidoideae and tribe Coptideae.
