Sophronanthe pilosa (Michaux) Small. Common name: Shaggy Hedge-hyssop. Phenology: May-Oct. Habitat: Marsh, wet areas, wet pine savanna. Distribution: NJ south to s. FL, west to e. TX, northward in the interior to KY, TN, AR, and e. OK.

Stems: Stems tufted, from a slightly woody crown, unbranched, hairy.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile, oval to lance-oval, to 3/4 in. long, toothed toward the tip, with long hairs and pebbly texture on upper surface.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers mostly sessile in leaf axils, white; about ¼ in. long; bilaterally symmetric; with a tubular corolla (hairy inside) opening to 5 tiny, spreading lobes that may be veined with purple. There are 5 hairy, unequal, linear-lance-shaped sepals about as long as the corolla tube.
