Glossary (beta!)

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Gaddy (1986) named Hexastylis rhombiformis; the correct name for the species is Hexastylis memmingeri, however, which has priority and unquestionably represents the same taxon, with a type locality at Memminger's estate "Tranquillity" in Flat Rock, Henderson County, NC. Barringer (1993) considered the species merely a form of Asarum contractum, but electrophoretic and morphologic studies have indicated that it is distinct from H. contracta, and more closely related to H. virginica (Murrell et al. 1998; R. Wyatt, pers. comm.).

Synonymy : = Asarum rhombiformis (Gaddy) Sinn — Sinn (2015); = Hexastylis rhombiformis Gaddy — FNA3, K1, K4, NS, W, Gaddy (1987a); = n/a — RAB, S; < Asarum contractum (Blomq.) Barringer — POWO, Barringer (1993). Basionym: Asarum memmingeri W.W. Ashe 1897
