*Wahlenbergia marginata (Thunberg) A.L.P.P. de Candolle. Phenology: Feb-Dec. Habitat: Soils (especially sandy) along roadsides and in fields. Distribution: Native of e. Asia and Oceania. Apparently only relatively recently introduced in se. United States, the earliest recorded date 1937 in Alachua County, FL (Rosatti 1986), but now quite common on sandy roadsides.

Intro: Erect perennial of sandy soils along roadsides and in fields. Native of e. Asia and Oceania.
Stems: Stems several in a clump, slender, branched, tinged with red, smooth.
Leaves: Leaves mostly near base of stem, alternate, linear to lance-shaped, to 1 1/2 in. long (uppermost leaves reduced to bracts), with wavy to toothed margins, smooth.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers solitary at ends of branches, blue, 1/2 in. wide, tubular with 5 spreading, pointed corolla lobes and a cylindric calyx with 5 narrow, erect, pointed lobes situated below the corolla.
Fruits: Fruit an erect, cylindric, red capsule with persistent calyx lobes.
