*Fothergilla ×intermedia Ranney & Fantz. Common name: Hybrid Witch Alder, "Mount Airy" Witch Alder. Phenology: Apr-May. Habitat: Commonly cultivated, perhaps persistent. Often misidentified as Fothergilla major. Distribution: Of horticultural origin.

Origin/Endemic status: Garden origin

Taxonomy Comments: Most cultivated Fothergilla (notably the cultivar 'Mt. Airy') is the pentaploid hybrid of Fothergilla gardenii × major (= F. ×intermedia Ranney & Fantz) (Ranney et al. 2007).

Synonymy : = Ranney et al (2007); = n/a — FNA3, K4, NS, POWO. Basionym: Fothergilla ×intermedia Ranney & Fantz 2007
