not marked as a favorite taxon Phacelia austrotexana (J.A. Moyer) B.L. Turner. Common name: South Texas Scorpionweed. Phenology: Feb-Apr. Habitat: Deep sandy soils, often in disturbed areas. Distribution: S. Texas and n. Tamaulipas.

Subgenus: Cosmanthus.

ID notes: This species is most easily recognized by its rounded to broadly obtuse sepal lobes and shaggy-pilose pubescence. It is one of several species that are endemic to the South Texas Sandsheet and adjacent areas with deep sands.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Turner (2010) elevated this taxon to species after being coauthor of the manuscript that described it originally as a variety of P. patuliflora (Moyer and Turner 1994).
