Intro: Erect, rhizomatous perennial of moist to dry weedy situations, river banks, bottomlands and bog margins.

Stems: Stems branched above, with lines of fine, white hairs.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, sessile, narrowly lance-shaped, 1 1/2-5 in. long, sparsely gland-dotted, sometimes with a few white hairs near the base of leaves and along the central vein beneath.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) in a branched, often flat-topped, terminal cluster; heads 1/8 in. wide, consisting of 12-35 tiny, yellow ray florets encircling a few (4-13) yellow, tubular florets.

Fruits:

Comments: The very similar E. lanceolata (E. graminifolia var. nuttallii) has leaf undersides, upper stems, and branches copiously to moderately short hairy and is found in similar habitat.
