Orbexilum lupinellus (Michaux) Isely. Common name: Lupine Scurfpea, Lupine Leatherroot. Phenology: May-Aug; Jul-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills. Distribution: A Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic, ranging from sc. and se. NC, south to c. peninsular FL, s. AL, and e. GA.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: The epithet 'lupinellus' is a noun in apposition and is therefore not declined according to the genus's gender; 'lupinellus' is the correct epithet and spelling in any genus.
Other Comments: The very peculiar leaves, palmately 5-7-foliolate with "oblinear" and densely glandular leaflets, make the species unmistakable. First reported for SC by McMillan et al. (2002).
