A genus of 2 species, herbs, of Mediterranean Europe and s. Africa. Schuster et al. (2015) advocate merging Emex into Rumex, showing it as sister to Rumex subgenus Acetosa; an alternative course (followed here) is to recognize Acetosa and Emex at generic rank.
Subfamily: Polygonoideae. Tribe: Rumiceae.References: Brandbyge (1993) In Kubitzki, Rohwer, & Bittrich (1993); Freeman (2005c) In Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2005); Koenemann, Kistler, & Burke (2023); Schuster et al. (2015). Show full citations.
