not marked as a favorite taxon Pauciflora sagittifolia (A. Gray) Morillo, Liede, & Meve. Common name: Arrowleaf Milkvine. Phenology: Mar-May. Habitat: Grasslands and open woodlands. Distribution: S. Texas, w. Texas, ne. Mexico (Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Matelea woodsonii Shinners was described from Val Verde Co., Texas (ISOTYPE: Lundell and Lundell 9926; LL00372546) as having a close affinity with M. sagittifolia, but differing only in the corona shape (corona cup-shaped or short-cylindric vs. saucer-shaped and entire in M. sagittifolia). While this synonym is not mentioned in Fishbein and McDonnell (2023), Correll annotated the aforementioned isotype and notes that the crown is essentially entire, thereafter synonymizing Shinners’ name with M. sagittifolia (Correll and Johnston 1970); this essentially refutes Shinners’ description. At least one of the only two other specimens cited by Shinners has been annotated to M. sagittifolia (McVaugh 7727). The other collection, Jones 2816, was cited from that collector’s private herbarium and the specimen could not be located; it may also have been annotated to M. sagittifolia (if the specimen still exists in curation).
