not marked as a favorite taxon Mimosa texana (A. Gray) Small var. texana. Common name: Texas Mimosa, Wherry's Mimosa. Phenology: Mar-Sep; May-Oct. Habitat: Dry, rocky plains and streambeds, arroyos, rocky limestone hills, sandy or gravelly thornscrub. Distribution: Sw. U.S. in se. New Mexico and w., c, and s. Texas, south into Mexico (Chihuahua, Durango, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tamaulipas).

ID notes: The position of the prickles opposite the rib leading to the petiole distinguishes this species from M. biuncifera when fruits are not evident (Isely 1998).
