Hab: In shallow water (later sometimes stranded on shore by dropping water levels) of clay-based Carolina bays, natural lake shores, blackwater stream shores and swamps, in seepage wetlands including sea-level fens, pondcypress savannas. Dist: NH south to c. peninsular FL, west to sw. AL (very rare north of NC); slightly disjunct in s. MS and se. LA (Sorrie & LeBlond 2008).
