Lonicera Linnaeus. Honeysuckle.

Key to Lonicera

A genus of about 180 species, shrubs and lianas (woody vines), mainly north temperate. See Yang et al. (2023b) for a proposed infrageneric classification. "Using chloroplast and nuclear gene data, we have obtained the phylogenetic hypotheses for the classification of Lonicera. The nuclear and plastome data produced roughly the same results, supporting two subgenera. The sections Isoxylosteum and Coeloxylosteum are supported by the nuclear genome data, but sections Isika and Nintooa are not monophyletic."

ID notes: As a general rule, our native honeysuckles have stem piths solid (not hollow).
