not marked as a favorite taxon Gaillardia fastigiata Greene. Phenology: May-Aug. Habitat: Grasslands and open woodlands, on rocky, calcareous, or sandy soils. Distribution: Kansas south through w. Arkansas and Oklahoma to c. Texas.

Glossary (beta!)

ID notes: Though variable, plants of this taxon in the flora region typically have consistently yellow rays, whereas those of G. aestivalis var. aestivalis are usually red-brown. This, in addition to the short-pedunculate heads of G. fastigiata, allow the two to be readily distinguished in most cases.
