Halophila ovalis (R. Brown) Hooker f.. Common name: Johnson’s Seagrass. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Estuarine waters. Distribution: Indo-Pacific regions; also West Indies and s. FL (perhaps by introduction?).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: H. johnsonii was considered as apparently endemic to c. and s. peninsular FL, though Short, Moore, & Peyton (2010) suggested that H. johnsonii may merely represent a disjunct population of the tropical Indo-Pacific H. ovalis. Waycott et al. (2021) confirmed that H. johnsonii represents a clone of H. ovalis.
