Alvaradoa psilophylla Urban. Common name: Cuban Alvaradoa. Phenology: Dec-May (-Nov). Habitat: Pine rocklands, rockland hammocks. Distribution: S. peninsular FL; West Indies (Bahamas, Cuba, Cayman Islands).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Alvaradoa psilophylla (of Cuba, the Bahamas, and s. Florida) has consistent morphological differences from Alvaradoa amorphoides (of Mexico, Central America, and n. South America), also differs ecologically by its preference for limestone, and has an allopatric distribution; there seems no reason to not accord it species rank.
