Hab: Moist pine savannas and flatwoods, moist to dry openings in maritime forests, dry pine and oak sandhills. Dist: Se. VA to FL, west to e. TX; West Indies and Central America.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: This and D. portoricense ssp. portoricense appear to intergrade in our region.
