Hippomane mancinella Linnaeus. Common name: Manchineel. Phenology: Jan-May; (Mar-) May-Sep. Habitat: Rockland hammocks, coastal berms, coastal buttonwood woodlands. Distribution: S. FL; West Indies; Mexico, Central America, and n. South America; Galapagos Islands.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: The latex is a caustic contact poison.
