Bryodesma rupestre (Linnaeus) Soják. Rock Spikemoss. Phen: Jun-Sep. Hab: Granite flatrocks, other, mostly acidic, rock outcrops, occasionally on greenstone or calcareous shales. Dist: S. Greenland and NS west to BC, south to GA, AL, AR, OK, and WY. Reports for KY are unconfirmed.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Valdespino in FNA (1993b) suggests that two or more cryptic or semicryptic species are present within what is currently called S. rupestris; additional study is needed.
