ID notes: West Gulf Coastal Plain plants are consistent in their numerous, strongly basally disposed, linear to subulate leaves. S. concinnum is quite variable and occasional individuals with linear leaves at midstem (not strongly basally disposed) occur especially on the East Gulf Coastal Plain (possibly intermediate); plants collected over exposed chalk in the Black Belt of MS and AL with somewhat basally disposed (but not linear) leaves have also been attributed to S. attenuatum.

Taxonomy Comments: Perhaps not warranting species rank; scattered reports east of the Mississippi River represent S. concinnum.
