Cyperus squarrosus Linnaeus var. runyonii (O'Neill) S.D. Jones & Wipff. Common name: Texas Awned Flatsedge. Phenology: May-Oct. Habitat: On sands or granite. Distribution: C. OK south to c. TX and s. TX. Reports of C. granitophilus from this area (O'Kennon & Taylor 2015) represent this taxon (Lowe & Carter 2023).

Taxonomy Comments: Lowe & Carter (2023) interpret C. squarrosus as having three varieties, var. squarrosus, var. runyonii, and var. graniticus.
