Rhynchospora chapmanii M.A. Curtis. Common name: Chapman's Beaksedge. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Pine savannas, seepage bogs, sandy margins of limesink (doline) ponds, and other wet, acid habitats. Distribution: Se. NC south to s. FL and west to e. LA; Belize, Nicaragua.
ID notes: Rhynchospora chapmanii always has pale tawny spikelets, thus differing from other beaksedges with which it may grow; most other Rhynchospora species have darker spikelets, while a few have bright white spikelets (which when faded to tan late in the season could be confused with R. chapmanii, but R. chapmanii has achenes with a smooth surface and absent bristles).
