Steinchisma hians (Elliott) Nash. Common name: Gaping Panic Grass. Phenology: Mar-Nov. Habitat: Stream, pond, and lake shores, low woods, cypress-gum ponds, floodplains, marshes, ditches, seepage slopes. Distribution: Se. VA south to FL, west to TX and OK, and south through Mexico and Central America to Colombia; also in s. South America.
ID notes: This species can superficially closely resemble Sphenopholis obtusata.
